Aherne was conceived in Ealing, London, to the group of an Irish railroad laborer, and from the age of two was raised in Wythenshawe, Manchester.[3] Like her sibling, Patrick, Aherne had retinoblastoma in youth, which left her incompletely located in one eye. She went to the Hollies Convent Grammar School in West Didsbury and afterward considered dramatization at Liverpool Polytechnic.

Caroline Mary Aherne was an English humorist and BAFTA-winning author and on-screen character, best referred to for executing as the acidic visit show have Mrs Merton, in different jobs in The Fast Show, and as Denise in The Royle Family, an arrangement which she co-composed. Aherne portrayed the Channel 4 unscripted tv arrangement Gogglebox from its origin in 2013 until 1 April 2016.
