Brian Aherne was a English tv screen actor. His complete name was William Brian de Lacy Aherne. His first Broadway appearance in The Barretts of Wimpole Street in 1931 joined him with Katherine Cornell, with whom he would show up in numerous later creations. In movies, he played inverse Madeleine Carroll, Marlene Dietrich, Rita Hayworth and Carole Lombard, and was Oscar-named for his job as Emperor Maxmilian in Juarez (1939).

On TV he showed up in Wagon Train and Rawhide. As a pilot, he filled in as a flight teacher in America in World War II. He was the more youthful sibling of on-screen character Pat Aherne, and was hitched to Joan Fontaine. Aherne distributed his collection of memoirs A Proper Job in 1969.
